Year 5 Home Learning Work for Friday 3rd July

Maths

Use the spreadsheet to set yourself a times table grid.

Today you have a challenge involving a café and its tables, chairs and customers. You might find that drawing a table with its chairs and customers helps - good luck.

English

Ask someone at home to test you on your spellings for this week.

You will need access to a keyboard for this activity.

Touch typing is when you can type the correct letters on a keyboard quickly and easily and without having to spend much time looking where the keys are.

It takes time to get good at it, but the link below will take you to a touch typing tutor on BBC Bitesize. There are lots of lessons. Start at the beginning and see how far you get. Come back to it regularly and you will be surprised how your typing improves!

History - If the Maya were so civilised, why did they practise human sacrifice?

Look at the presentation entitled 'Bloodthirsty or not?'.

The resources below will help you to make up your own mind. Cut out each of the cards on the first document and place them on the template according to whether you think they provide evidence that the Maya were civilised or brutal.

Think about the work you did in Year 4 on Ancient Egypt. What similarities and differences can you spot with how the Maya treated their dead?

Finally, tell someone at home what your verdict on the Maya is - civilised or bloodthirsty - and make sure you can justify your view with evidence.
