Year 5 Home Learning Work for Friday 22nd May

Use the spreadsheet below to set yourself a times table grid. Make sure someone has a stopwatch handy!

Friday is investigation day, so have a go at the raft crossing challenge below. You may want to get some mini figures and a pretend raft to act out the sequence of movements - it might help!

Ask someone to test you on this week's spellings - good luck!

It is now a week since I released the final part of Shakespeare's Wooden Leg. I hope you have caught up now and have finished the story - if not, you may need to spend a bit of time finishing it off.

Today I would like you to write a book review, telling me your thoughts about my story. Be honest - I can cope with criticism!

Tell me which characters were your favourites and why, which parts of the plot you liked the best and why, whether it was believable or predictable or boring or too challenging etc etc. Please send me your reviews if you can, so that if I write another story I can take your comments into account.

Look at the photos in the Oxfam slideshow (below) to remind yourself of the journey of a Costa Rican banana.

Be a Costa Rican banana farmer!

This is a game to play. It is more fun if you play with others.

You will need:

  • paper
  • drawing pencils
  • yellow pencils or pens
  • pairs of scissors
  • six-sided die
  • stopwatch or timer

Follow the instructions in the document below. Good luck!
