Autumn term

Computing Autumn Term 2

In computing this term we will be creating media through digital painting. We will be developing our understanding and discovering what tools and programmes we can use to create our own digital paintings.

So far this term we have been exploring 'Paint', the children have enjoyed using their existing computing skills and knowledge to create their own digital artwork.

History Autumn Term 2

In History this term we are learning about the history of toys. We will be finding out how they have changed over time and how they differ from the toys our grandparents played with.

The children have enjoyed exploring the toy box that we hired from our local museum and are excited to find out more about toys from the past in the forthcoming weeks.

Black History Month

During Black History Month Year 1 learnt about the influential Betty Campbell, who persevered to becoming the first black headteacher in Wales.

The children were inspired that despite the hostility Betty received earlier in her career, it was her determination and resilience that meant she achieved her dream of becoming a headteacher.  Betty’s school moto was “Credwch I Gyflawni” (Believe to Achieve).

As a class we discussed how Betty would have felt when she was told that she would never achieve her dreams and the children all thought about what they aspire to be or do as they get older.

It was wonderful to hear the children's goals and dreams and how so many wanted to help others.

Our trip to the literature festival- we had an amazing time seeing Benji Davies!

Year One had been working hard on learning computer skills. We have been practising using a mouse and a keyboard.

In R.E. this week, we have reflected on the upcoming harvest and thought about how we can say thank you for natural creations. In class, we tasted a variety of fruit and reflected on who we would like to say thank you to.

In R.E, we are answering the question: 'Who do Christians think made the world?'. We started off our topic by learning the creation story. We then discussed the difference between natural and manmade objects and went on a local 'natural objects' hunt.
