English - Transition to Year 7

Secondary schools may ask for a piece of writing to be sent to them as part of your transition. In English today and tomorrow, we will plan and write a letter to your new school.

This is a perfect opportunity for you to tell your new school some information about you.

Think carefully about your organisation for your writing - what will you include in each paragraph?

Write a letter to your secondary school telling them what you are looking forward to, what you are nervous about, what you enjoy doing and something you dislike. You will want to make a good first impression!

Watch this video to learn how to set out your letter.

Science

Watch this video on using scientific equipment and take the quiz.

e-Safety

Your child could have a go at entering The Childnet Film Competition which invites young people aged 7-18 to create a 2 minute online safety film to inspire their peers to create a safe, supportive and fun online world around the theme ‘We want an internet where we’re free to…’ The entries that make into the final shortlist will be judged by a prestigious panel made up of representatives from BAFTA, the BBC, the British Board of Film Classification, the BFI, Disney and the Motion Picture Association.

The young people who create winning films and storyboards will receive great filmmaking and creative prizes for their school or youth group. Whether used at school or as a home learning project, the competition is a great way of exploring important internet safety messages with young people of all ages. Find out more here.

Art and Design - Kandinsky

Watch this video about Kandinsky to understand why he changed his style of painting.

Expression- Kandinsky felt that he could express emotions and music through colours and shapes within his painting. Create a piece of artwork inspired by your favourite piece of music. Listen to the music several times and feel free to draw or paint the emotion you feel at the time.

My friend Rhys Cowe uses synaesthesia when he paints - when he hears music, he sees colours and paints them. Here is his website.

You might recognise his work as he paints the utility boxes on Bath Road, Cheltenham.
