What makes a great explorer?
It’s lovely to return to school in 2025 and I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas break. This term, we have planned lots of exciting learning for our new enquiry project “What makes a great explorer?” In this History-led theme, we will learn about Captain Robert Falcon Scott. He was a Royal Navy officer and explorer who led two expeditions to the Antarctic regions: the Discovery expedition of 1901–1904 and the ill-fated Terra Nova expedition of 1910–1913. We will use artefacts and secondary sources to learn more about their journey and what went wrong for them. The children will also take part in a workshop about Edward Wilson from Cheltenham who was with Scott on that fatal expedition. This event is organised by The Wilson Museum in Cheltenham – a separate letter will be sent with more details. Our science work will link nicely to this as we look at “Animals and Humans” exploring the basic needs of animals including humans for survival. Knowledge organisers for Science and History are attached to use at home for retrieval practice. PE sessions will be Tuesdays and Thursdays this term however, PE Kits need to be in school everyday in case of timetable changes.
