Christ Church Primary School

Summer Term 2024

Welcome to the Summer Term.

We look forward to lots of wonderful learning and experiences throughout this term!

Christ Church was inspired by an author visit today from Jo Stacey. ‘WARNING: Magic Can Be Dangerous’ is the first book published, under the guise of her alter ego, B. Ware. She’s now working on the second book in the WARNING series, which revolves around a dragon theme 🐉 📚

A group of Y6 children enjoyed an inspirational workshop at SPIRAX this week. They were challenged with designing and creating their own force-powered plane. They had such a wonderful time and relished the opportunity ✈️ 🧪

Year 6 enjoyed creating their dream houses in Computing this week 🏡📱

Y6 Leavers Service 2024 at Gloucester Cathedral

Year 6 relished the opportunity to learn some Mandarin this week. They can now say hello, goodbye and count up to 100. From the workshop, they gained further global perspective and linguistic competence, contributing to their readiness to engage with the wider world on cultural, social, and communicative levels when they move to secondary school 🇨🇳

Year 6 enjoyed undertaking multi-step word problems in maths with a real-life link of ordering food using a menu 🍔 🍎

Year 6 had a wonderful leavers’ service at Gloucester Cathedral on Wednesday (12.06.24). They reflected on their time at primary school through songs, prayers and readings. Our nominated candle bearer and banner holders did so well and represented Christ Church brilliantly. We are very proud 🌟

Year 6 loved their clay workshop with Danielle - they each made a Discus fish which will be part of a piece of collaborative school artwork in the near future 🐠

Year 6 were visited by Faye from the YMCA who led an informative workshop about how we can help other people in our community. Faye shared examples of homelessness in Cheltenham and what we can do to help 🏠

Year 6 loved their trip to the Science festival. They enjoyed undertaking the numerous STEM stands in the discovery zone before listening to a talk by the Scientist Adam Rutherford. The children went on an extraordinary adventure through millions of years of human history with Adam to learn the story of our species, from evolution to dinosaurs to themselves. The children learnt that no matter what skin colour you have, language you speak or place you are from - we all share the same small pool of ancestors.

What a wonderful start to Term 6. Year 6 relished their experience in the space dome today - they learnt so much about our solar system and beyond! 💫 🌍

A fantastic maths investigation looking at happy numbers. In number theory, a happy number is a number which eventually reaches 1 when replaced by the sum of the square of each digit 🐧 🧮

Thank you to the student teachers from the University of Gloucestershire for coming in to work with Y6 groups to teach them about tourism, Mount Everest and physical environments 🏔

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their forest school session this week (23rd April). They were inspired by the natural world to craft clay faces and decorate rocks. We were really impressed with our resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.
