Design Technology

"DESIGN IS NOT JUST WHAT IT LOOKS LIKES AND FEELS LIKE.

DESIGN IS HOW IT WORKS."

STEVE JOBS- Founder of Apple.

At Christ Church primary school,  we aim for all pupils to be as creative and passionate about Design and Technology as possible. We wish to ignite their desire to experiment, assess and adapt their thinking and actions. We trust that learning and experiencing these valuable skills will greatly assist them in their future ventures.

The national curriculum for design and technology aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world
  • build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users
  • critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others
  • understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn how to cook.

In design and technology, we aim for our pupils to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required to design and make products of good quality using a range of materials and components. In addition, they should learn how to use and evaluate products to ensure that they are fit for their intended purpose, and to appreciate the impact of technology on everyday life.
