Year 5 had a great time at the Science Festival on Wednesday listening to a talk by Meganne Christian, member of the European Space Agency. Meganne shared her story with the children, describing being a child who was fascinated by space before going on to gain a degree in engineering. This then led her to spend a year in Antarctica at the International Arctic Research Centre. She described experiencing temperatures as low as -104°C! Meganne then applied to the European Space Agency to continue her research in space. She has carried out her basic training, including zero gravity parabolic flights, and is now on the reserve team of astronauts and awaits her call up to go into space. Her talk was inspirational and showed the children that a career in science really can take you anywhere!
