Year 2 Cheltenham Science Festival – “Smash your Goals”
Year 2 walked to the Cheltenham Science Festival to enjoy a session with “Mark the Science Guy” who lead a session called “Smash your Goals.” Mark Langtry was a professional footballer who played for Ireland but he is also a scientist. His show was so funny, the children were laughing during his performance, while learning too. The session was all about the science behind football and pupils learned about aerodynamics, how to best kick a curve ball and a knuckleball. We learned about the 7 main scientific tests performed on the World Cup Football before it goes to the pitch. Some of our pupils made it onto the stage so well done Radvin and Millie for being so brave! Radvin had to do “keepie-uppies” while Millie got to kick the ball and a speed radar gun clocked the speed of her kick – 30.8 mph. Afterwards, they children enjoyed the “Maker Shack” where making slime was popular. Thank you to the parents and staff who made this amazing trip happen.
