Year 5 World War 2 Evacuation Trip

As part of their World War 2 topic, Year 5 were evacuated to the countryside of Winchcombe on Wednesday. They travelled on the steam train and experienced a little of what it would have been like for the millions of children who left their families behind when they were evacuated from the cities.

At the station in Winchcombe, the children took part in fire training and learnt about the dangers of incendiary bombs. When the air raid syren sounded, they went to the ARP shelter and again, experienced a little of how it would have felt to listen to the planes fly over and the devasting sound of bombs falling.

In the 1940’s school room, they learnt about rationing and got to try some of the games that the children would have played with.

This was a fantastic learning opportunity for the children and hopefully a trip they will remember for a long time. To see more of our photographs, please visit our Year 5 class page.
