Friday

Year 5 Home Learning Work for Friday 26th June

Maths

Use the spreadsheet below to set yourself a times table grid to complete.

Today's investigation is about the page numbers of a book. You will be multiplying together consecutive page numbers, eg 5 x 6.

English

Ask someone at home to test you on this week's spelling list.

Today I would like you to have a go at a type of puzzle which involves both numbers and letters.

A codeword puzzle is a grid of words, where each letter has been coded with a number. You are given some letters to start with, but then have to work out which numbers correspond to which letters. Here is an example:

Use the link below to access a free online codeword site.

Click on 'Play now in your browser' and use the tutorial at the start so that you know how to solve the puzzle on your device.

History - How can we know what life was like 1,000 years ago?

Use the Powerpoint presentation below to learn about the discovery of a famous Mayan artefact:

Look at the document below and think about the discovery as a historian. Ask yourself these 3 questions:

  • What can I see?
  • What can I work out?
  • What do I still not know, but could like to find out?

Now look at the Powerpoint presentation below. STOP at slide 2 and try to guess what the Mayan objects were for (ask others at home to have a guess too).

Then move on and you will find out if you were right or not.

Finally, you must make a decision about some Mayan sites.

Budget cuts mean you cannot afford to maintain and study all sites. Look through the presentaion below and do some of your own research. Which site do you think is the most important and therefore should get the funding?
