There are four main aims for teaching RSE within the context of the PSHE Curriculum:

More than ever before, children are exposed to representations of sex and sexuality through the social culture around them. The unregulated content on the internet or social media, can mean children may be exposed to dangerous, confusing or scary content. We can prepare them for this by presenting a balanced view of positive healthy relationships to help them to be discerning and to stay safe.

There is much independent research showing most parents and carers value the support of schools in providing Relationships and Sex Education for their children. The teaching of relationships and sex education is seen as a partnership between school and parents. 

Relationships Education will put in place the building blocks needed for positive and safe relationships, including with family, friends and online. Your child will be taught what a relationship is, what friendship is, what family means and who can support them. In an age appropriate way, we will help your child to learn the skills to treat each other with kindness, consideration and respect.

Our Jigsaw puzzle piece called 'Changing Me' deals with changes of many types, from growing young to old, becoming a teenager, assertiveness and self-respect. Within this context, self and body image, puberty and attraction are all discussed in an age-appropriate way. Life-cycles and how babies are made and grow are topics that are treated sensitively. All year groups learn about how people and bodies change. These topics link with the Science Curriculum when we teach children about life-cycles, babies and puberty.
